Pax Autocratica First 50 Cycles: A Survival Guide to the Brutal Opening
Master the brutal opening hours of Pax Autocratica. Essential tips for the first 50 cycles, base building, research, and combat.
The Brutal Opening
The first 50 cycles of Pax Autocratica are unforgiving. Resources are thin, your population is fragile, and a single bad decision can cascade into starvation or revolt. This guide walks through what to build, what to research, and when to finally leave the base.
Cycles 1-10: Foundation
Survival is the only goal in the first ten cycles. Do not overbuild.
- Housing first: Every citizen needs shelter. Without it, Morale collapses before your economy exists.
- Food chain: Build a Greenhouse and assign a cook. A 20% food surplus is the minimum safety margin.
- Warehouse Center: Centralize storage so the Resource Transport Station has a destination.
- Tactical Bureau: Unlock it as soon as you can afford it — Core Fragment slots and mobility define the rest of your run.
Do not pass heavy Fear laws this early. Your population is too small to absorb the Loyalty hit.
Cycles 11-30: Expansion and the Law System
Now you stabilize. The Law system unlocks, and you choose your ruling posture.
Choose a Path Early
| Path | Trade-off | When to pick |
|---|---|---|
| Fear | Fast obedience, long-term instability | If you're rushing military expansion |
| Loyalty | Slower, sustainable production | If you want a stable workforce |
| Mixed | Balanced, but demanding on attention | When you're unsure or experimenting |
Production Chains
Stand up at least one full chain: raw → processed → stored. A broken link anywhere causes idle workers and wasted cycles. Use Stock Mode on food and Continuous Mode on building materials.
Cycles 31-50: First Expeditions
This is where the dual-loop kicks in. You gear up and leave the base for the first time.
Pre-Departure Checklist
- Ship research — at least one capacity upgrade so you can bring a squad.
- Medic in the roster — healing mid-battle is non-negotiable.
- Second Chance equipped — your insurance policy.
- Capture Rounds stocked — dead enemies give nothing; captured ones give workforce.
- Base left stable — enough food and workers that production doesn't collapse while you're gone.
What to Expect
Early expeditions are small skirmishes. Use them to learn squad commands and the dash mechanic. Don't overextend into high Enemy Strength sectors — retreating is free and loses nothing.
Beyond Cycle 50
From here the game opens up: Sector Overlords, Dreadnought research, deeper Core combinations. The fundamentals above are what keep you alive to see them.
